Asked What He Says to Frightened Americans, Trump Responds ‘You Are a Terrible Reporter’

President Donald Trump and his coronavirus task force have been holding daily briefings in the press room over the week and sometimes, it has gotten confrontational as journalists ask Trump what his administration is doing to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

On Friday, the president attacked NBC White House correspondent Peter Alexander after he asked what the president wants to say to frightened Americans.

Alexander asked, “What do you say to Americans who are scared, though? I guess, nearly 200 dead, 14,000 who are sick, millions — as you witnessed — who are scared right now. What do you say to Americans who are watching right now who are scared?”

Rather than respond, Trump shot back, “I say that you’re a terrible reporter, that’s what I say.”

Moments later, the president added, “I think it’s a very nasty question, and I think it’s a very bad signal that you’re putting out to the American people. The American people are looking for answers and they’re looking for hope and you’re doing sensationalism and the same with NBC and ‘con-cast’, I don’t call it ‘Comcast’, I call it ‘con-cast’.”

He continued, “Let me just tell you something, that’s really bad reporting. And you ought to get back to reporting instead of sensationalism. Let’s see if it works, it might and it might not, I happen to feel good about it, but who knows, I’ve been right a lot.”

As another reporter began to ask a question, Trump pointed at Alexander and said, “You ought to be ashamed of yourself.”

See the video below:

Trump’s interaction with Alexander comes only a day after he praised One America News (OAN), saying at a press conference, “OAN — very good … they treat me very nicely.” The reporter from OAN then asked Trump during the briefing if he thinks the term “Chinese food” is racist and accused other journalists of “team[ing] up with Chinese communist party narratives.”

  1. Funny! I don’t remember these same questions when Obama was “sleeping” through swine flu. It took him 10 months to even acknowledge it.

22 million cases in the US. 100,000 hospitalized, 3900 dead from April to October. Those are conservative estimates by the CDC.

When Trump DID take action by restricting travel with China and later Europe, he was criticized as being “racist” by the media and the Democrats. Now it turns out it was the right call.

Throughout his presidency Trump was accused of being a fascist; he was a threat to Constitutional rights and “Our Democracy”. Now he’s being criticized because he hasn’t “taken control”, I.e., he hasn’t been dictatorial and fascistic enough. The media, especially NBC, CNN doesn’t really give a flip about consoling “the people”. Hypocrites!!!

    1. Why you spreading this false information? Weird how you are unquestioningly spreading information directly from president Trump without actually doing any due diligence in checking if it’s true or now.

” It’s true that Obama didn’t declare a national emergency for six months, but that ignores several other steps the administration took, including declaring a public health emergency the same month that the novel H1N1 infections were first reported.”

“On April 15, 2009, the first infection was identified in California, according to the CDC, and less than two weeks later, on April 26, 2009, the Obama administration declared a public health emergency. The day before, on April 25, the World Health Organization had declared a public health emergency.

Dr. Richard Besser, then-acting director of the CDC, confirmed to the press on the day of the U.S. declaration that there were 20 cases of H1N1 in the U.S., and that “all of the individuals in this country who have been identified as cases have recovered.”

The same day — April 26 — the CDC began releasing antiviral drugs to treat the H1N1 flu, and two days later, the FDA approved a new CDC test for the disease, according to a CDC timeline on the pandemic.

On April 30, 2009, two days after the public health emergency declaration, Obama formally asked Congress for $1.5 billion to fight the outbreak, and later asked for nearly $9 billion, according a September 2009 Congressional Research Service report. On June 26, 2009, Obama signed Congress’ supplemental appropriation bill that included $7.7 billion for the outbreak.”

  2. Well, that interaction certainly puts all Americans at ease.

That should have been an easy question to give the people who ARE panicking some assurance and instead he goes all crazy.

That question is a normal question a leader gets when people are panicking.

    1. Really? How many times do you think President Trump has been asked that question already. Hasn’t declaring a national Emergency, a travel ban (for which he was called a racist) mobilization of the Naval hospital ships and Army MASH’s, promises of tax payment deferments/holidays, $1000 checks to all, freeing up corporate resources to step up mask and ventilator production etc been enough? Does the media want him to hand out lollipops and pacifiers to the press corps as well? All they’ve done is question his use of “Chinese Virus” and ask “why didn’t ya?” questions.

The Democrats and media’s behaviors through this whole thing has been abhorrent and despicable!

Cuddle up in your blankie with your bottle, you’ll be OK when this is over. Feel better now?

      1. That wasnt a question on Chinese Virus or a why didnt ya question… it was a legitimate question a leader would be expected to answer when the nation is going through something like this. He isn’t the only one who is responding to the same questions over and over. That response wouldnt have worked anywhere right now in the business world and it didn’t work here.

I’m not one panicking. But I’m not blind – others are panicking and getting stir crazy. It would have taken 15 seconds for him to respond appropriately, but he chose this route instead.

I get it seems like babying, but the fact is people work better together when the person in charge stays calm and sensible. Small adjustment on Trump’s end with a big result for everyone else. That question wasn’t about him and it wasnt for him – but he made it about him.

        1. “That wasnt a question on Chinese Virus or a why didnt ya question…”

True, but one of the few… especially from the likes of NBC who rarely asks a question that isn’t intended to be a “gotcha!”

I’m quite sure if the media began treating him with some level of respect, he would respond in kind.

As far as the “China Virus” questions, there were plenty of the chattering monkey press corps attempting to call him out for it yesterday. This was China’s cover up and dishonesty that brought ;the world to this point! They “try” to blame US? And the media is more than happy to oblige!!

          1. I do understand. Now is just not a great time for it. That was not a gotcha question. That was a lay up. If the president does not have the patience for repeated questions then he should leave that to his press secretary. That’s their job.

Honestly, i don’t care what it’s called. I’m not interested in that argument. You’ll need to have that fight with GC. 😉
