Trump Says He Told Georgia Governor He ‘Disagrees Strongly’ With Plan to Reopen State

President Donald Trump has not made it a secret that he wants to see restrictions aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus lifted sooner rather than later.

On Friday, he called on Americans to “liberate” their states and was accused of “fomenting” protestings against stay at home orders.

However, during a press conference on Wednesday, he said he told Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R ) that he “disagrees strongly” with his plan to reopen Georgia’s economy.

“I told the governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, that I disagree strongly with his decision to open certain facilities which are in violation of the phase one guidelines,” Trump said.

“But, at the same time, he must do what he thinks is right. I want him to do what he thinks is right. But I disagree with him on what he’s doing,” Trump added.

He continued to say that spas, salons, and barbershops should not be opening at this point in time, “It’s just too soon.”

“They can wait a little bit longer, just a little bit – not much. Because safety has to predominate. We have to have that,” he added.

Watch the video below:

Kemp has been criticized for his plan to begin lifting restrictions on businesses as early as next Monday, as IJR has previously reported. Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams called Kemp’s plan “dangerously incompetent.”

Additionally, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Kemp’s plan is “going too fast too soon,” and raised concerns about the speed with which Kemp plans to lift restrictions.

Under Kemp’s plan, non-essential businesses such as spas, barbershops, tattoo parlors, and gyms can reopen as early as Monday.

According to the guidelines Trump unveiled on Thursday, many of the businesses that Kemp is allowing to open on Monday — such as spas, barbershops, and tattoo parlors — should not be opening until the second phase of the plan.

Responses

  1. The night before the prez AND the Veep BOTH phoned to congratulate and support Kemp re-opening before he should. Then it seems somebody reminded King Donald The Loser that Kemp was the bozo who appointed Loeffler against his wishes. Ooops! By morning, KDTL had changed lanes and threw the Gov. under a bus.

    We MUST elect better politicians.

  2. “She’s a corrupt DemocRAT.” Confused James The Projectionist

Phyllis: that is just Confused James The Projectionist projecting onto her.

  3. James, WHAT happened to Trump’s “absolute power”? AND What happened to Trump’s Task Force recommendations on Saturday when Trump tweeted “Liberate Michigan” “Liberate Minnesota” and “Liberate Virginia.” Did Trump FORGET about the 14 days AFTER a decline in cases AND robust testing?
If DeSantis’ actions are so smart, HAVE YOU been to the beach?
And your reference to Stacey Abrams as “corrupt” to WHAT are you referring? When has she been arrested, fined or sued?? Are you confusing her with Trump who was fined $2 m in 2019 for stealing from his charity and spent $22 m settling 2 class action lawsuits for fraud in 2016? And those are just 2 of his MANY fines for corrupt business practices. Or perhaps you were confusing her with Chris Collins and Duncan Hunter both serving time for FEDERAL crimes? I am not a Stacey Abrams fan, but corrupt is not an apt description of her.

  4. It is each Governors responsibility to determine when and how their State is to be opened up to fix their broken economies and put people back to work; not Trump’s. Trump only provides recommendations and guidelines for safety based on the data he is provided by the so-called experts.

What would a VP Stacey Abrams have done to bring America back to life? She’s a corrupt DemocRAT. The answer is crystal clear: NOTHING – just like the lack of action the Marxist Kenyan and his demented sidekick took from April 2009 until October 2009 AND 1,000 Americans had died.

Also, many throughout the Country have criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for a test opening of the beaches in Duval County (Jacksonville) and St. Johns County (St. Augustine) even childishly called Floridians #Morons. With the fact there have been NO increase in the kung flu because of the openings, it seems more – if not ALL – beaches in Florida will be opened for the public’s pleasure to walk, hike, bike, swim, fish and surf with Duval County’s leadership being the model for a common sense approach. How many other States with their Governors using common sense will follow suit?

NOW, that prompts the question: WHO are the REAL #Morons? Certainly not the R’s.

  5. Stan, WHAT does YOUR opinion of Stacey Abrams’ appearance have to do with “Liberate” Trump encouraging protests to open the country, NOW saying “It’s too soon.”? EVERYTIME I look for logic in Trump and Trumpers comments, I come up empty.
WHY no response to Trump and Graham’s agreement with Abrams and as indicated in polling, 70% of the country? Is an insulting remark suppose to make sense of Trump or Kemp’s actions? Perhaps in Trump World that makes sense to you. But outside your bubble it sounds childishly ignorant.

  6. “Stacey Abrams called Kemp’s plan “dangerously incompetent.” Something she sees EVERY TIME she looks in the mirror, along with fugly.
