Trump, Cuomo Spar Over Coronavirus Response: ‘You Have to Do Something’

The week started with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) offering rare praise of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence

“The fairness dictates that kudos where kudos are due, and here the vice president and the President responded very quickly. So, I want to thank them for that,” Cuomo said on Monday while speaking about the Trump administration’s response to the outbreak of the virus in the state.

But, within hours, Trump accused Cuomo of not doing enough to handle the coronavirus outbreak in New York.

“Just had a very good teleconference with Nation’s Governors. Went very well. Cuomo of New York has to ‘do more.’

Cuomo fired back in a tweet and called on Trump to take more action to address the outbreak, “I have to do more? No — YOU have to do something! You’re supposed to be the President.”

The spat comes as The New York Times reports that during a meeting with the nation’s governors, Trump encouraged states to try to acquire ventilators and other hospital equipment on their own.

“Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment — try getting it yourselves,” Trump reportedly said.

He added, “We will be backing you, but try getting it yourselves. Point of sales, much better, much more direct if you can get it yourself.”

On Sunday, Cuomo called on Trump to activate the Army Corps of Engineers to help expand hospital capacity across the country.

Responses

  1. Yeah… the article implies Cuomo praised the president and the president then threw a public punch. Is that the order of things or slanted reporting?

Not loving the beefs between Govenors and President battled out through twitter.

  2. New York did not go for Trump in 2016 and it won’t in 2020. Trump considers himself president of the states that supported him—BUT, New York, like all Blue states has Trumpers in residence.

  3. I’ve listened and watched Any Cuomo speak. His is neither an orator NOR striking as someone with any kind of intelligence. He’s slow, clumsy, and anything other than a gifted orator OR thinker. Maybe he should hire Obozo’s teleprompter crew. they did a great job convincing the gullible that the Kenyan could speak extemporaneously (which requires a HUGE amount of skill. Ask any Toastmaster.)

The same disciplines and mental prowess are absent on the Dim campaign. Bernie rants. Joe stumbles.

  4. Seriously.

Has Don Cuomo, without the aid of his CNN brother Fredo, considered the consequences to the livelihoods of many and NY’s economy. Having a huge, crowded population is a mixed blessing, especially in any “downstate” or urban populace,

  5. Nuke NY. That’s the Swalwell solution. Remember that failed Dimocratic candidate.

While data on the coronavirus surviving nuclear bombing does NOT exist, are we willing to take chances?

Nuke Seattle for the same reasons.
