Sanders: The Unified Work Could Make Biden the ‘Most Progressive President Since FDR’

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is speaking out about his new team’s policy work with Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden insisting their work might make him “the most progressive president” since former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

During an appearance on MSNBC’s “All In with Chris Hayes,” Sanders discussed the proposed policies he and Biden have been working to create ahead of the upcoming election.

Recalling his previous work with former Vice President Biden, Sanders revealed outlined the various areas of government they worked to improve.

“I was glad to work with the vice president in forming six separate task forces, which had some of the most knowledgeable people in the country coming together to deal with education and climate change and health care and the economy and criminal justice and immigration reform,” Sanders said.

The Vermont senator went on to discuss how Democrats are finding a way to bridge the gap between their beliefs. Noting that compromise has played a major role in their efforts, he believes their work could change the face of Biden’s presidency.

“These folks, needless to say, represented the progressive movement and had a different perspective on things than did Biden’s people. But there was serious discussion and I think a real honest effort to come up with a compromise. And I think the compromise that they came up with, if implemented, will make Biden the most Progressive president since FDR.”

See Sanders’ remarks below:

Sanders is also confident that if their proposed agenda is put in place, it will lead to an improved quality of life for the American people.

“If that agenda is implemented, life will improve for tens and tens of millions of working people,” Sanders said. “It will improve for our environment and for climate change, criminal justice and for the needs of low income people.”

As of the end of June, Biden holds a 12-point lead in the polls as President Donald Trump’s approval rating has suffered a substantial decline but that lower-level now remains steady, according to Gallup.

The U.S. presidential election is set for November 3.

  1. General, I am in favor of Peace on Earth. Would you not see me as unreasonable if I called politicians “corrupt” if they would not promise the American people that they will make it happen upon taking office?
Please read Phoenix’s post with WHAT set back your goals.

  2. General, progressives don’t just have lofty goals. They have outright delusional goals. Let’s take climate change for example. Private sector is on board, green energy is advanced enough to start being profitable.. now was a good time to slide in some progressives policy promoting it. What did they do? They put out a SWEEPING bill that vilifies people for eating burgers and talks about cow poop. Now climate change is back to being a joke.

Progressives don’t seem to know how to move the needle. They don’t seem to know how to convince people. And they don’t seem to care what’s lost in their path to “lofty goals.” They are good though at offending the people they need to enact any change – very good.

  3. “But there is an entire half of a country that isn’t willing to vote for them.” Phoenix

That is not a valid reason to not fight for lofty goals. If you aim high for the necessary changes that we need, it isvlikely that at least small changes will get enacted.

One person singlehandedly shifted this nation into supporting progressive change. One person. Imagine what could happen when there are ten progressive leaders, a hundred, thousands. The movement IS building, fortunately, but slower than what we need; and slower than what I saw was possible, in large part because the US is so corrupt.

    We MUST elect better politicians.

In the end, the advice and recommendations from the 6 councils have to be sent to the conservative and corrupt DNC leadership. It will be up to them to pick and choose which policy ideas that they feel that they can get away with enacting against the wishes of their bribing donors. They need to do just enough to get a few votes from progressives and a few independents to be able to defeat our fascist president, and that is as far as they will go.

Don’t expect any enlightened moments of clarity that will shift the party leadership into supporting progressive policies. No way. There is nothing in these recommendations about the Green New Deal or M4A, for example. In other words, Joke Biden will be able to fulfill his promise of no change by just fiddling with little changes around the edges.

Of course, the American Fascist Party, and especially King Donald The Loser, will attack these policies as being the end of the world as we know it. Those of you who can’t think for yourselves will fall for it hook, line, and stinker, all against your own best interests.

    Fools.

    We MUST elect better politicians.

And Matt Gaetz is a tool.

  5. Also GC – grow up. I am a supporter of a lot of progressive policies. But there is an entire half of a country that isn’t willing to vote for them.

And I’m not willing to lose any more ground because you wanted the whole pie rather than one piece.

YOU as an old white guy aren’t losing much if Trump wins again. I don’t want to lose any more ground because progressives don’t understand how to market their ideas.

  6. I’m afraid of losing an election because none of the critical battle ground states are voting far left. They are barely voting kind of left.

Bernie Sanders supporters don’t vote. If they did, he would have won. Therefore i don’t see any reason to lose votes of people who do by courting a progressive vote. Especially when the ones that DO vote aren’t going to suddenly vote Trump.

  7. Phoenix: why are you afraid of socialist change? Are you afraid of our Social Security program? Our libraries? Our public road system? Our military (you should be)? Our programs to protect the poor or women? Our public education system (attacked needlessly)?

If we didn’t have these social supports and policies, you would not like living in this country.

  8. Bernie needs to go away. President Trump is going to try to paint Biden as a socialist. It’s going to be a lot more believable if there’s a freaking socialist running around giving interviews like that.
