No Investigations of Ousted White House Aide Vindman: U.S. Army Secretary

U.S. Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy said on Friday there were no investigations into Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, the former National Security Council aide who testified in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial and was fired by the White House along with his twin brother.

On Tuesday, Trump said the military may consider disciplining Vindman, who provided some of the most damaging testimony during an investigation by the U.S. House of Representatives of Trump’s dealings with Ukraine.

“There’s no investigations of him,” McCarthy said during an event at the National Press Club.

Vindman is back at the Army and will be heading to a military college in the summer.

Vindman was escorted from the White House last week as was his twin brother, Yevgeny, who worked as a lawyer at the NSC and is also a lieutenant colonel.

“We sent him on his way to a much different location and the military can handle him any way they want,” Trump said.

Asked if he was suggesting that Vindman face disciplinary action, Trump said that would be up to the military.

“If you look at what happened … they’re going to certainly, I would imagine, take a look at that,” Trump said.

Vindman, then the NSC’s top Ukraine expert, testified that Trump’s request for an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden, a potential Democratic political rival in the 2020 presidential election, and his son Hunter during a July phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy was improper.

The call led to the Republican president being impeached in the Democratic-controlled House and later acquitted in the Republican-majority Senate.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper, who was formerly the army secretary until taking the top Pentagon post, said in November that Vindman should not fear retaliation over his testimony.

  1. From veterans group reported in The Military Times:
“The president should know that, despite taking aim at one Army officer, he has targeted anyone who currently wears — or has worn — the uniform,” the group stated in an open letter. “Our service members and veterans deserve the confidence of knowing that our elected leaders will come to their defense, just as they remain vigilant for ours.

“The manner of these dismissals suggests that the commander-in-chief has prioritized a personal vendetta over our national security.”

  2. “Shhh! Let’s sweep this under the rug and hope no one remembers after the next news cycle.”

Remember when setting examples by punishing bad, possibly criminal, behavior was a good thing?

    1. Dear Lord…Only in Trump World is complying with a lawful subpoena and answering truthfully under oath “bad, possibly criminal, behavior” Your hero only TALKS about giving under oath testimony. He does not ever do IT and his attorneys know putting a pathological liar under oath is a risk they can not allow him to take. Telling Trumpers what they do not wish to hear is NOT a crime. Check the criminal code–IT IS NOT THERE.

      1. SyPhyllis: “putting a pathological liar under oath is a risk”

And yet, Adam Schiff, another pathological liar, did it with no opportunity for Trump to defend himself as would be customary in any trial that followed the Constitution and laws of our land.

Vindman himself, under oath, denied that President Trump did anything unlawful or impeachable.

But his leaking to Eric Ciaramella WAS insubordinate and a betrayal of his vows to defend this country and his pledge to defend defend The Constitution. He also had numerous warnings by his superiors that his conspiring with other Ukrainians was out of line.

It was over due that he was released. I’m just sorry that we’ll be paying his pension and benefits.

    1. Let’s hope the MSM keeps this alive by referring to the “decorated officer” frog-marched out of the WH.

Funny how the MSM said NOTHING when Col. Ollie North or Gen Flynn were persecuted, err, prosecuted.

      1. PLEASE somebody come up with a plan to MAKE AMERICA SANE AGAIN!! Vindman complied with a subpoena and gave testimony under oath that was CONFIRMED by the WH release of the phone call as well as OTHER under oath testimony! Hurting your feeling with the truth is NOT a crime.
Ollie North WAS a CRIMINAL! Destroying evidence and criminal conspiracy ARE crimes –he got off because Congress had made a deal with him for his testimony during which HE ADMITTED to the crimes! He covered for Reagan and that made him a hero to Republicans which status remained in place UNTIL he exposed LaPierre as a crook. His image is now tarnished with the Trumpers.
Flynn entered a guilty to plea to lying to the FBI, who had evidence on tape Flynn was LYING. Flynn was supposedly FIRED by Trump for telling the SAME LIE to the Vice President. Lying to Mike Pence is not a crime. Lying to the FBI IS! He was not registered as a foreign lobbyist while lobbying for Turkey–also against the law. He had an agreement with the prosecution to testify against his partner, so he was not charged with that and other crimes, but did NOT comply with the agreement. Flynn started the banana republic “Lock Her Up” chants at Trump rallies so he became a hero to Trump World.
You forgot to mention Gallagher, who was convicted of a war crime, but Pete Hegseth convinced Trump to pardon war criminals. So now, Gallagher is your hero.

IF you find an actual CRIME for Vindman, THEN vilify him. Since the military has reassigned him, Screw, are you FINALLY able to admitted he is STILL ACTIVE MILITARY? For reasons known only to you, you INSISTED he should not be wearing his uniform to the impeachment inquiry hearing believing he could not be active military and serve on the WH National Security Council. Ask James, after he retired from the military did DOD assign him a job.

    2. Sherri, A coup?? Our founding fathers put impeachment in the Constitution to prevent a coup. Don’t know where you went to elementary school, but in PA we were taught that in the 4th grade.

      1. Really? You in PA were taught about impeachment in fourth grade? That would be like teaching pigs the highlights of Einstein’s theory of relativity.

While half of you were drenched with your drools, the other half were still unable to control your stools. Not an insult of PA students, just an insult of your absurd claim.

I say this as a student who was pushed two years ahead of my classmates by graduation.
