‘A Double Standard’: Newt Gingrich Weighs in on Response to the Sexual Assault Allegation Against Biden

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is talking about how lawmakers are responding to a sexual assault allegation made against former Vice President Joe Biden (D).

Gingrich noted the comparison between how lawmakers responded to allegations made against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and the one made against Biden.

He was asked if there was a double standard there during a Fox News interview on Thursday.

“Sure there’s a double standard and it’s politics,” Gingrich said. “The left hated Kavanaugh, they hated the idea of President Trump having another conservative Supreme Court justice and anything they could to stop him was okay.”

Watch his comments below:

Gingrich went on to suggest Democrats are “stuck” with Biden and have to rally around him as he is not going anywhere.

He expressed his belief it would be better for Biden to come out himself and address the allegation.

“I think Biden, Vice President Biden, would be much better off to make a statement and release the documents from the University of Delaware where his papers are,” Gingrich said.

The documents Gingrich is referring to are Senate records possibly containing information related to the sexual assault allegation against Biden, according to reports.

Gingrich reiterated Biden can end this if he came out with a statement and released the documents.

“He has an easy way to end this. If he doesn’t end it, my guess is nature of the American news media, it will just keep growing,” Gingrich said.

He added, “It’s now in the New York Times, it’s now in the Washington Post. So even the liberal media is beginning to feel that they have to deal with it.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams have both come out in support of Biden.

Pelosi said, “I do support Joe Biden. I’m satisfied with how he has responded.”

Abrams similarly said, “I believe Joe Biden.”

Responses

  1. Wow! Did all you commenters watch the video? Gingrich isn’t saying Biden is right or wrong. He specifically said if Biden releases the documents, it will be over, whether good for Biden or bad. If he doesn’t release the documents, the situation will grow in the media.

But that brings up another issue: Where did any of you get the idea that a person has to be sinless in order to stand against sin? Who among you is without sin? Do any of you even know anyone who is without sin? Do you really think you’re more righteous because your sins are mostly hidden from public view while someone else’s sins are blasted all over the internet? Or because you didn’t do (or didn’t get caught at) the specific sin someone else did?

  2. Aren’t you naive! President Trump had none of his dalliances in the White House. Reading book about Eisenhower. Look up Kay Summersby, Marilyn Monroe and Kennedy and the real classy Clinton. Now Biden is in the hot seat squirming. But you have no issue with your judging others. Just not Democrats. Had this suspicious virus not slow him down the US would be more successful than any time in history. There will be one judge in our lives and it isn’t you.

    1. Cherl is confused.

It doesn’t matter WHEN an extra-marital affair happens. It matters first and foremost that it HAPPENED.

Please remember that if it ever happens to YOU!

  3. Double standards… Trump had 14 women alleging assault, but of course they had to be lying, so that the reality show TV star could advance unblemished to the presidency. It’s been broadly accepted among Republicans and evangelicals that his adulteries and atrocious behavior towards women don’t matter, for reasons that are hard to understand, unless you acknowledge that dreams must come true, and Trump, despite his awful character, is the centerpiece of the escapist dream.

      1. Everybody has swept those allegations under the presidential rug. Without an investigation, what does it matter to you now? It just allows cover you to keep siding with Teflon Don.

      2. Trump’s strategy is deny, deny, deny, then threaten, threaten, threaten, and then sue, sue, sue. That’s what Michael Cohen was there for. The secret is that, in American life, nobody really cares about who’s banging what women. If Al Franken had toughed it out, nobody would have cared about him being grabby with a few gals, in anything but the short term. Biden would be advised to deny it over and over, and his apologists will make a solid wall around him, as they did for Kavanaugh and Trump.

Actually, in the case of Kavanaugh, I don’t know why any of us should care about whether he was an ass in high school, if he didn’t keep it up in adult life. Trying to make a major case out of it was a political mistake and a national waste of time. Every man is a dick at some time in his life, for at least a few hours and a few instances. It’s our job to look at him fairly, and decide whether it’s a moment of tasteless idiocy or his life story. In the case of Trump, it looks like a lifelong character flaw, driven by his sense of entitlement, and an underlying inferiority complex.

        1. “In the case of Trump, it looks like a lifelong character flaw, driven by his sense of entitlement, and an underlying inferiority complex.” ANOTHER armchair psychologist.

        2. Did you get your degree, like philly, from a cracker jack box?

      1. Cheri, I don’t wish to be nasty, but you’re acting like The One Judge has subcontracted the role of judging Democrats to you.

Good for the goose, sauce for the gander, an’ at.

  4. Double standard is one word for it. A better word is just extreme bias. Not long after Donald Trump declared himself as a candidate for president, Democratic Party operatives got busy using dirty tricks to target him. They were caught on several occasions, but the media largely ignored the incidents and evidence and continues to do so. Clearly, they are not neutral. They abuse the power they hold as news reporters by filtering information (even going as far as to publish false information, then retracting it knowing many or most will miss the retraction), so as to attempt to form public opinion rather the simply inform the public. I prefer to think for myself, so just present the full set of facts–no omissions, no additions, no varnish–no abuse of power please. Yes, we know power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Framers of our government knew this and created 3 equal branches of government to achieve and maintain a balance of power. Back to my point of Democratic Party operatives attempts to defeat Trump … anyone remember the Me Too movement? This spontaneous movement started by a victim exposing an abuser, revealed something if you were paying attention. As more and more victims came out to expose their abusers, victims in Hollywood bravely came out of the woodwork risking blacklisting by the liberal elite . The Hollywood liberal elite, who had regularly attacked/slandered Trump, had been covering up for Harvey–incredible hypocrites! You had to be paying attention, because their actions covering for Harvey got very little attention in the media. Yes, it is true … if it weren’t for double standards, liberals would have none. This simple little truth is becoming more true every day. Anyway, back to the Me Too movement … I watched for women to come forward to accuse President Trump. Certainly, there should have been many according to the previous narrative put forth by the Democratic Party and the liberal News Media. I have to admit, with his ego, I was surprised to see that none came forward. Seems the dirty tricks fund must have been temporarily dry or they just didn’t have time to plan to take advantage of a spontaneous movement.

  5. “I got hairy legs that turn that that that that that turn um turn blonde in the sun and the kids used to come up and reach in the pool and rub my leg down and watch the hair come back up again and they would look at it so I learned about roaches I learned about kids jumping on my lap and I’ve loved kids jumping on my lap. . .”

  6. Remember this double standard was also used for Hillary’s and Obama’s coverup of Benghazi and Democrats fake impeachment hearings etc. Remember all of this treachery and traitorous dealings from the left when you vote the November.

    1. Absolutely! It’s disgusting & a disgrace to all victims that they’re basically ignoring this.

  7. That’s rich coming from a married guy who was going for President Clinton’s jugular while at THE SAME TIME carrying on an extra-marital affair and wanting an open marriage with his wife.

    1. And now for the “but what about” by the Democrat Biden protectors. Watching Biden inappropriately put his hands on young girls and even young women is disconcerting. And he IS running for president. Sadly.

        1. Did I say predator? I didn’t even say preditor. But since you mention it Biden seems to be just that. A little too handy. Since you like to keep score there was Kennedy, Clinton and the dynamic duo of Strzok Page. All of them working on the taxpayers’ money. President Trump was a private citizen during his dalliances. But nice try. You don’t seem to want to defend Biden. I wouldn’t either. And I will definitely vote for President Trump again.

        2. Like I asked you before, contusion, why have the women who accused Trump DISAPPEARED just as fast as they showed up?

        3. “I got hairy legs that turn that that that that that turn um turn blonde in the sun and the kids used to come up and reach in the pool and rub my leg down and watch the hair come back up again and they would look at it so I learned about roaches I learned about kids jumping on my lap and I’ve loved kids jumping on my lap. . .”

genital contusion, please provide ONE example of Trump and CHILDREN. Just ONE. You WON’T because you CAN’T. PERIOD.

          1. Be careful what you are willing to unleash, Stan.

Several former Miss USA and Miss Teen USA contestants accused your Dear Leader of entering the dressing rooms of beauty pageant contestants. He even bragged about doing that on Howard Stern’s show.

Your Dear Leader spent quite a bit of time around Epstein. That should make YOU more than uncomfortable.

“Katie Johnson” in legal papers claims she was repeatedly raped by Trump and Jeffery Epstein at Epstein’s New York City apartment in 1994, when she was 13 years old. Charges have NOT been withdrawn to this day.

    2. No kidding. And ICK who’d be so desperate as to have an affair with Gingrich. Gross.
      Republican morals lol.

          1. Nancy, me, too. When I walked away from the dims as klinton was running the first time, my IQ shot up from 145 to 160.

      1. He had at least two affairs while married, and he married them both. Go figure. For every awful man, there are apparently at least three vulnerable women.

        1. Well don’t you know a lot about his personal life? Fortunately most people don’t care and have their own lives to be concerned about.

          1. That is the problem, Cherl. YOU don’t care about allegations against YOUR favored politicians. If enough voters like you DID care, we wouldn’t have such a dangerous and toxic, fascistic president as we have TODAY! You bear that burden, we all pay the consequences.
