In an op-ed published by The Washington Post, Conway insisted that Trump’s credibility and poll numbers are “shot.”
“He stands on the verge of electoral oblivion. He’s capable of no response other than his lifelong mainstays: shamelessly lying and trying to cheat,” Conway wrote.
He continued, “He tried once before, of course, to cheat in this election, by using presidential powers to try to extort Ukraine into propagating lies about his opponent — and was caught, although not punished.”
Conway went on to note Trump’s recent tweet where he described mail-in voting as “inaccurate and fraudulent.” According to Conway, the president is “peddling lies” with his inaccurate claims against mail-in voting.
“Now he peddles a different lie: that somehow extensive ‘Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good)’ would produce ‘the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history.’ Hence the supposed need to ‘Delay the Election,’” Conway wrote.
Citing the occurrences of the 1864 Election, Conway noted the significance of that election and how approximately 150,000 Union soldiers’ absentee ballots “that helped ensure President Abraham Lincoln’s reelection, the preservation of the union and the abolition of slavery.”
Conway went on to note the benefits of mail-in ballots insisting the paper trail makes fraud more difficult to achieve.
“Mailed votes leave a paper trail that renders them less, not more, susceptible to fraud,” Conway wrote, adding, “The fraud is Trump’s: He’s lying so he can buy more time — or so he can delegitimize the vote and blame someone other than himself for his defeat.”
Conway’s latest remarks follow several of Trump’s claims about mail-in voting, as previously reported on IJR.
On Thursday, the president caused a media firestorm when he suggested that the election be delayed due to his concerns about voter fraud amid the pandemic.
At the time, he tweeted, “With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???”

However, Republican leaders have pushed back against the president’s suggestion and concerns about voter fraud reiterating the Election Day law which states that the election always takes place “the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November as Election Day.”
