FBI Chief Orders Internal Review Into Probe of Trump Ex-Aide Flynn

Two weeks after the Justice Department sought to drop charges against U.S. President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn, the FBI’s director ordered an internal review on Friday of the bureau’s investigation that led to Flynn’s prosecution.

Flynn, a retired Army lieutenant general who also advised Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, pleaded guilty in 2017 to lying to the FBI about his conversations with Sergey Kislyak, Russia’s ambassador to the United States, in the weeks before Trump took office.

The probe ordered by FBI Director Christopher Wray will “determine whether any current employees engaged in misconduct” in the investigation of Flynn and “evaluate any FBI policies, procedures or controls” that need to be changed, the agency said in a statement.

The charges arose from former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation that documented Russian interference in the 2016 campaign to boost Trump’s candidacy. Trump and his allies have denounced the FBI’s investigation of contacts between his campaign and Russians. Wray previously has said he does not believe the FBI unfairly targeted Trump’s campaign.

The Justice Department on May 7 asked U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan to drop the charges against Flynn following public pressure from Trump and his political allies. Flynn had sought to withdraw his guilty plea and accused the FBI of tricking him. Sullivan has scheduled a July 16 hearing on the matter.

Democrats and some former federal prosecutors have accused Attorney General William Barr of politicizing the U.S. criminal justice system to benefit Trump associates in criminal cases.

Trump, who has called the FBI “badly broken,” appointed Wray after firing James Comey as FBI director in 2017. The president berated Wray in December after a Justice Department internal watchdog report found no evidence of political bias when the FBI began investigating contacts between Trump’s campaign and Russia.

  1. If Wray wants to do something quit . Or Trump needs to firer him. The Demacarts would love it. But better yet Trump needs to do one better. Do a Bill Clinton firer everyone in the justice department and replace. The only one who complained about it was Ken Star who filed a law suit against his fire-ring . But he dropped it after taking the job as a special prosecutor. But feel that was bias on his part.

      1. Phyllis don’t play dumb. The deep state is a undercover government bent on taking down the Trump Administration. Demarcates don’t care of the rule of law so they play dumb. Obama is the first President who never left Washington. He has worked undercover since leaving the White House. If the government wasn’t being torn apart all this would come out faster. Obama said before leaving the White House there is only one President and that was him. He stated this before leaving the White House secret service logs will show it . He dumped his secret service even those he wasn’t the only one. Like the mob bosses he bribed Republicans. Funny the FBI once went after the mob but since going to Washington they joined up. Obama did BRIBE Paul Ryan till Polosi took over. By being so sure the election was rigged again . Shows Paul Ryan was a joke he took the bribe from from the man who rigged the election. Now that election was never investigated either. But the facts are there on the 2 states that cost Mitt and Ryan from losing the White House. But no one looked . Then Mitt comes back going after Trump. Funny the state is putting a law just to recall him.

        1. Is there a prize for the most gullible Trump supporter? I would like to nominate you.
James, at least admit that the “Deep State” is anyone that pledged allegiance to the U.S. Constitution, not DJ Trump.

    1. Essentially, yes, Cherl, but don’t go all self-righteous on us now. As far as I have seen, IJR’s list of censored words consists of only one word and URLs. Anything else, by omission, is fair game.

  2. Is about damn time Wray did something useful, while checking out current FBI employess, check out other MoFos like Sreckkzk, McCabe, Lisa Page, Buchanan and all the FBI ex-employees now working for MSNBC,CNN and the alphabet channels. Hey John… if Trump is Rectum in Chief , what is Biden? Dead Man Walking, Alzheimer Joe.

    1. HOW many investigations do you need? I would be careful diagnosing someone with Alzheimer if you have forgotten that DOJ Inspector General Horowitz already investigated the FBI and reported his findings–which was “NO POLITICAL BIAS”. AG Barr appointed Dunham to investigate and those investigations are still pending. AG Sessions had also appointed Huber to investigate the FBI’s findings of Clinton and the Clinton foundation–Huber found what the FBI found, no truth to the conspiracies.
I do give you points for not rejecting Wray’s findings before he even starts the investigation. Many IJR posters already have. But if Biden is “Alzheimer Joe,” what is your diagnosis for a POTUS who thanks the Revolutionary soldiers for successfully defending the airports? Or a POTUS who publicly suggests body implanting UV light and injection of disinfectants for the treatment of COVID-19? Or claims to believe that “hundreds of governors” are calling him to praise his response to a pandemic? Diagnosis: a stable genius??

  3. THE RECTUM-IN-CHIEF, the most dysfunctional and phuked up president in American history, calling anyone badly broken is an obscene joke

    1. Uh, John, you are just another trash talking, name calling, low mentality dem/leftist/prog/socialist that thinks we care what you think.
But thanks for your support in re-electing Donald Trump as president.
Your kind of trash talk was all over these comment boards during the 2016 election and we all see how that ended.
      So thanks again, John.

      1. Give every male of every species with the grievous misfortune of being in your zip code a gift they will always cherish and never forget Peggy : Go Phuhk Yourself. Forever.

        1. Don’t worry about Peggy, john. She doesn’t even know what a “dem/leftist/prog/socialist” is, let alone why she should dislike or disagree with one, if she could even find one. Indoctrination does that kind of thing to an unthinking partisan person.

      1. HOW is John all Libs? Unfortunately name calling is quite popular with the current POTUS and has been adopted by John. But MANY Trump supporters, for reasons that I do not wish to explore, engage in name calling on social media.

        1. Phyllis: Why are you trying to take the high road when you know good and well your people call us racists, xenophobes, bigots, etc.? You’ve done it too.

          1. LOL…. I was unaware that I had people. I was not aiming for the “high road” simply the mature path. If someone posts something racist, xenophobic, sexist, or bigoted, yes I will call it out. Unfortunately, IJR removed the alert system to report such posts. But, sorry, at 68, I am not going to revert to name calling simply because a POTUS does it.

          2. “you know good and well your people call us racists, xenophobes, bigots, etc.?” Regina

If you don’t want to be called a racist, xenophobe or bigot, etcetera, then don’t DO racism, bogotry, or xenophobic things, etc.

I know it is hard for someone who has done that their entire life, but you CAN stop it. It may take some effort and concentration on your part, though. Please try harder.

        2. Phyllis :
All apologists, enablers, and supporters of THE OBSCENE ABORTION trumpuke are more toxic, useless, and worthless than raw cesspool sludge.
