Ex-US Ambassador to Ukraine on Vindman’s Retirement: ‘He Deserved Better Than This’

Marie Yovanovitch, the former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, is coming to Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman’s defense after he announced his retirement from the U.S. military this week.

In an interview with The New Yorker, Yovanovitch expressed her disappointment with how Vindman was treated upon his retirement.

“Alex is a decorated combat veteran and has served his country well and honorably,” Yovanovitch said.

She added, “Alex should have received the honor and thanks and recognition of the nation. He deserved better than this. Our country deserved better than this.”

Vindman, a notable witness in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, claimed his future will be “forever limited” as a result of his testimony, his lawyer said in a statement, as IJR previously reported.

Vindman testified that Trump’s alleged move to pressure Ukrainian officials to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden (D) was improper.

Following his testimony, he was removed from his position as the National Security Council’s (NSC) top Ukraine expert.

While he was removed from the NSC, he remained in the military.

Democratic lawmakers slammed Trump following Vindman’s announcement of his retirement, as IJR previously reported.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Vindman will be remembered as “an American patriot” and later fired back at Trump for his “shameful firing” of Vindman.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) joined Pelosi in her criticism of Trump, as he alleged Vindman’s punishment was a result of “this amoral president,” as well as the “GOP and Congress.”

Schiff also wrote a letter to Vindman on Wednesday thanking him for his service to the nation.

Schiff was the lead impeachment manager in the Senate trial against Trump.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) also came forward in defense of Vindman by writing a statement about Defense Secretary Mark Esper, accusing him of his “failure to protect” Vindman from Trump.

She vowed to block over 1,000 military promotions until Esper confirmed he would not block the promotion of Vindman.

  1. Kenneth, I have no doubts that you actually believe what you posted. That you believe Republicans could not call witnesses is an indication that you believe whatever you wish to be true. House Republicans list included Tim Morrison, Kurt Volker, David Hale, Gordon Sondland and Jonathan Turley–all which did testify. Yes, their list did included many individuals that either had no knowledge of the phone call, the hold on the money, why Congress was not notified as required by law, or discussions with the Ukraine government regarding the hold.
If you have figured out how Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, Alexandra Chalupa, and Nellie Ohr had knowledge that could exonerate Trump, I would love to hear it. Their list also included the “whistleblower” which R’s fluctuated between claiming the whistleblower knew NOTHING and demanding to hear from him. Perhaps you made sense of that too.

  2. Reading the posts below, I am convinced that it will take a miracle to restore sanity to America. 44% of the country is in need of deprogramming. I am old enough to remember a country that valued the U.S. Constitution and those who upheld it. We have 44% of the country that value loyalty to a con man.

  3. “Alex is a decorated combat veteran and has served his country well and honorably,” Yovanovitch said.

Her comment was as asinine as Was Susan Rice’s comment that Taliban traitor, Bowe Bergdahl, served honorably.

  4. The man attempted to change a transcript of a phone call between the Presidents of two nations to insert language into it that none of the other 12 people listening to that call apparently heard, or ever testified to. But for the fact that his superior officer did not trust him and had the transcript moved to a secure server, Vindman would have succeeded in his coup attempt with Misko and Ciarmella, and I suspect with Schiff as well. He likely deserves to hang for treason so he’s probably getting off lucky to resign. Wonder if he still has that cushy job lined up with Ukraine.

  5. Again, IJR demonstrates anything but a desire to be “independent.” Not one word as to why Vindman and Yovanovitch were both individuals that Trump would NOT want involved in positions important to his policies. There is documented evidence that Yovanovitch was working AGAINST Trump policies and was very much involved in the Bidens’ unethical/illegal activities in the Ukraine, including testimony and documents showing that Yovanovitch refused to give Ukrainian prosecutors visas to go to America to present their evidence of such unethical/illegal activities to the Justice Department. As for Vindman, his opinions were only of value to Democrat propaganda. He had no real evidence of value once the telephone transcript was revealed. If the House Democrats really wanted truth and justice, they would have allowed Republicans to call witnesses, as well. It was a political game from the beginning that, with liberal media’s support, put Republicans in a no-win position. When it got to the Senate, what would have happened if senators had decided that since the House had already collected the prima facie case against Trump, the Senate would only then allow Trump witnesses to refute those testimonies. The media would have gone crazy, but in a sense that would have been the fair thing to do. Instead, Democrats accused the Senate Republicans of a cover-up because they would not continue the House’s farcical trial. However, if senators had not refused, the Democrats would have just continued the trial for as long as possible for their political purposes. No reason for IJR to exist if all it does is parrot other leftist media.

  6. Delbert, I read the postings and with the exception of your 2 posts and General’s 1 post, one thing is CLEAR. We need a leader with a plan to MAKE AMERICA SANE AGAIN. WHEN did something become a “lie” simply because it is information that one does not wish to hear???

  7. Here’s the deal with military officers: they take an oath to the Constitution, not to the President. The S.S. took an oath to their Fuhrer; the US services do not. It’s no treason to go against the President’s interests and demands, if he’s busy committing crimes against the United States.

  8. Robert, it’s pretty peculiar that Vindman and Russian soldiers would be talking together in English such that Hickman (who of course speaks no Russian) could understand. It adds doubt to his story, as does his frequent twittering about “Q”.

  9. He deserved to be fired for insubordination What ever happened to doing your job especially at that level This is the problem with todays workforce they think they get to control the narrative instead of doing the job they are assigned If you don’t like what you are told then quit When you are in a position that has national security implications you don’t whine because you don’t like the way the commander is implementing his authority You do what your told and keep your mouth shut or find a new job those are your only choices and when companies fire their human resource officers and start running companies the old fashion way the tail will stop wagging the dog

  10. She isn’t and never has been active duty. Promotions at that level are very competitive. You have to excel at that level and any black marks on your Fit Rep can disqualify you for promotion. Especially if the others in the queue don’t have black marks. Plus, looking at the news feeds today, it appears she also lied under oath. Her emails reveal that she was much more well informed about Biden and Hunter’s role with the Ukrainian oil company. Just another liar. We have seen so many lately.

  11. Retired Army Officer Remembers Lt. Col. Vindman as Partisan Democrat Who Ridiculed America..

He was apologetic of American culture, laughed about Americans not being educated or worldly, & really talked up Obama & globalism to the point of (sic) uncomfortable.

He would speak w/the Russian Soldiers & laugh as if at the expense of the US personnel. It was so uncomfortable & unprofessional, one of the GS [civil service]employees came & told me everything above. I walked over & sat w/in earshot of Vindman, & sure enough, all was confirmed.

  12. “Alex is a decorated combat veteran and has served his country well and honorably,” Yovanovitch said.

He should have stopped while he was ahead. Goodbye to bad rubbish.

  13. Lt. Col. Vindman did not lie and he is a hero to the United States. Bone spurs treated you horribly!

  14. Generally Confused Asshat: Vindman lied to the American public regarding what he heard Trump say during a phone call for which a transcript existed that proved otherwise. Under oath, he COULD NOT affirm that he heard anything in that call that was impeachable. He lied!! The same went for EVERY other witness at that trial!!

Do you suffer the same lack of comprehension that Vindictive Vindman suffers??? Don’t bother answering, I already know the answer.

Not only that, Vindman had been reprimanded by superiors years before about his anti-US comments to other Ukrainians!

HE is a traitor and should be treated as such!! He’s a lucky, undeserving MFer!!

  15. Oh yada yada yada. That’s all libtards do is complain. It they spent half the time looking out for the American people’s welfare that they do trying to frame President Trump something might get accomplished!!!

  16. She added, “Alex should have received the honor and thanks and recognition of the nation. He deserved better than this. Our country deserved better than this.”

    Nope. He didn’t.

  17. Another bitter person who thought her job was guaranteed.

Lt. Col. Sausage, err, Vindman looks like he NEVER missed a meal.
He f’d himself by missing his strike against the boss of his bosses. That speaks of a deep stupidity AND a lack of forethought. Just like so many on the Left.

Anyone who thinks the military is NOT the original Deep State should do some research. “military-industrial” complex anyone? Note how many generals, active or retired, there are vs. the actual results.

“When you strike at a king, you must kill him.”–Emerson, not to say that idiot
Scotty (Genital Confusion) is in anyway right about calling Trump “King”. I wish he were. Scotty and so many others would not be polluting the internet or society.

  18. “Vindman made false accusations against his commander in chief that he wouldn’t testify to under oath.” HWB

BS! No, he didn’t. You lied.

  19. In the private sector when you make false allegations against your boss that you can’t back with facts or evidence, you DESERVE to get FIRED!!! Why should government phuks be any different?…Because they’re government phuks!!!

Vindman made false accusations against his commander in chief that he wouldn’t testify to under oath. Therefore, his accusations were lies!! There are no other words for him other than TRAITOR!!! This phuk was fortunate to retire with his pension intact. He should have his pension REVOKED!!!
