Biden Says Lindsey Graham’s ‘Been a Personal Disappointment’ for Not Recognizing His Election Win

President-elect Joe Biden has a few words for Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) regarding the 2020 presidential election.

Biden was asked by late-show host Stephen Colbert if he takes it personally that many Republican lawmakers have not acknowledged him as the president-elect, even after the Electoral College vote on Monday.

“No, look, they’re in a tough spot,” Biden responded, adding that a “number of them” have said to him, “‘Give me time, Joe.'”

Colbert then pointed to Graham, asking if Biden believes they could “patch it up and work together.”

“Lindsey’s been a personal disappointment because I was a personal friend of his,” Biden said.

However, Biden added that he believes his incoming administration can work with Republican Congress members.

“Once this president is no longer in office, I think you’re going to see his impact on the body politic fade, and a lot of these Republicans are going to feel they have much more room to run and cooperate,” he said.

See Biden’s comments below (starting at 1:50):

Graham said during a Fox News interview shortly after Election Day, “We will work with Biden if he wins, but Trump has not lost. Do not concede, Mr. President. Fight hard.”

He has, however, urged President Donald Trump previously to give Biden intel briefings — which Biden now receives.

Graham previously suggested that if Biden wins, then Trump should attend his inauguration on Jan. 20, 2021.

“I just think it’s good for the country. It’d be good for [Trump],” he told reporters at the end of November.

  1. “If my choices are Cori Bush, who ran on a platform of “defund the police” and “defund the military,” Phyllis

You are confused, Phyllis. She did not campaign on those issues. I will link her issues campaign page, below. The defund the police slogan started long after her campaign issues were settled, but police / prison reform, which is not the same thing but is related was always there. Police reform allows shifting police funds.

Also, we must reduce our incredibly unnecessary military budget, too. It is so out of control and disgusting. 64%, that is TWO THIRDS of our total budget goes to the MIC! That budget keeps going up and how many full blown wars are we still in? We SHOULD be spending less, not more. This was not in her platform, either.

  2. Yes, Phyllis, it takes time to win elections. My point was that, if one wants to make changes, those changes need to be put to the test of an election. Unfortunately for us, we never got that far in Kentucky because the party wanted to keep a progressive from winning. We STILL lost.

For some reason, I keep on having to explain this to you.

  4. General, you got who you wanted in West Virginia’s U.S. Senate race and how did that work out? WHY do you believe it would have worked out better in Kentucky?

General: “Compare [Graham] with, say, a Cori Bush. Who would you trust to look after you and this country more?” If my choices are Cori Bush, who ran on a platform of “defund the police” and “defund the military,” and Lindsey Graham, who supports every military action anyone can think of, I am not putting my trust in either one.

  5. “He throws his “OWN” under the bus along with everyone else.” Donna

Washington is FULL of Lindsey Grahams throwing most of us under a bus. The reason is that they get elected for all the wrong reasons – personal greed for power – corruption.

Compare him with, say, a Cori Bush. Who would you trust to look after you and this country more?

We MUST elect better politicians. It’s on us all every election, not just one, most especially the primaries. Primaries are when we make the most important choice – who we GET to vote for in November. For example, we HAD the chance to pit a real populist opponent against Missing Moscow Mitch. It was within our grasp. Instead, the party ensured that we got Amy McGrath. How did THAT work out for us?

And Matt Gaetz is a tool.

  6. Lindsey Graham should admit what he is, his entire life is a lie. Every time he voted with ultra conservatives while voting for military issues and personal liberties he denied what he is and everyone knows it. He voted against things he partakes in. I don’t know why people are surprised at what a foul person he is. He throws his “OWN” under the bus along with everyone else.

  7. Joe Biden was in Washington well long enough to know it holds true in D.C. if you want a friend, get a dog. Lindsey Graham was supposedly a friend of John McCain—HOW did that work out for John McCain?

  8. I lost every bit of respect I had for Graham when he disparaged his words of 2018 and ramrodded the selection of Amy Barrett into the SCOTUS.

  9. Moscow Mitch, Graham, et al will be more willing to work with Biden than Obama…Biden is white.
