American Cancer Society Says Trump’s Not Responsible for Lowered Cancer Rates After His Tweet

The American Cancer Society suggested that President Donald Trump wasn’t responsible for the decline in cancer deaths after he appeared to take credit for the lowered cancer mortality rate.

The president boasted on Twitter on Friday morning, “U.S. Cancer Death Rate Lowest In Recorded History! A lot of good news coming out of this Administration.”

But the American Cancer Society took issue with Trump’s boast. The organization’s CEO Gary M. Reedy told CNN, “The mortality trends reflected in our current report, including the largest drop in overall cancer mortality ever recorded from 2016 to 2017, reflect prevention, early detection, and treatment advances that occurred in prior years”

Reedy added, “Since taking office, the president has signed multiple spending bills that have included increases in funding for cancer research at the National Institutes of Health and National Cancer Institute — though the impact of those increases are not reflected in the data contained in this report.”

This isn’t the first time that Trump has made an unusual boast about cancer — it’s not even the most outrageous claim he’s made. During an August rally, the president promised to cure childhood cancer and end the AIDS epidemic, telling his crowd, “I see what they are doing. I see it. They show me. The things we are doing in our country today. There’s never been anything like it. We will be ending the AIDS epidemic shortly in America, and curing childhood cancer very shortly.”

Reedy said that the administration could help lower the cancer mortality rate by “increasing access to comprehensive health care, supporting robust and sustained increases in federal funding for cancer research and passing and implementing evidence-based tobacco control policies.”

Trump has said that he intends to pump funding into cancer research. During his 2019 State of the Union address, he said that he would put $500 million for pediatric cancer research over a ten year period.

  1. “U.S. Cancer Death Rate Lowest In Recorded History! A lot of good news coming out of this Administration.”
He’s stating a fact as no other administration has told us that. He’s not saying that he did it.
Did the American Cancer Society do it? No! Others did it and they take the credit.
Tired of the political BS. I will no longer make donations to the ACS as they think they did it all.

  2. full disclosure: I USED to donate to the ACS, before discovering it was staffed by rent-seekers and overpaid staff like this CEO.

The ACS should do a study on the cancer risks associated with TDS. There HAVE to be some. They’ll have a full 8-yr. sampling.

It’s been documented that blood pressures, loss of sleep, tooth-grinding, and other unwholesome practices have been in force. Hmmm….I wonder how’ll they’ll account for the emotional and mental instabilities present in those who deny reality?

Even Nancy Lugosi has to wear headgear at night to avoid teeth grinding. I wonder what Phil does? Maybe posting here is her “therapy” like shouting at the sky.

    1. I wonder about the mental stability of a guy that concerns himself what I do regarding “blood pressures , loss of sleep, teeth grinding,….” LOL…But to address your concerns, I DO have a blood pressure—no indication of impending shock. If I have difficulty falling asleep, I read a book or get on the treadmill. I do not grind my teeth or my dentist would have brought it to my attention. Headgear for grinding teeth?? What century do you live in? BTW, when history records TDS, are they going to judge SANE unconditional trust of a POTUS with over 15,000 lies to the American public in less than 3 years?

  3. Why isn’t the ACS taking any credit? There’s a big tell here and it had to do with money.

The ACS CEO cannot say whether there’s a correlation or not. There are too many variables, especially with individual lifestyles, genetics, and environment. HE’S MAKING SHIT UP.

WHY? He makes $2.1M per year.
ACS spent $2.8M in lobbying in 2019 to primarily Democratic causes and candidates.

He doesn’t like anyone competing against his moneymaking industry. IF someday cancer is defeated then they no longer get money. It’s that easy.

    1. Democratic causes in fighting cancer are different than Republican causes in fighting cancer??? There are D cancers and R cancers???? John McCain and Beau Biden had glioblastoma. Richard Mellon Scaife and RGB had pancreatic cancer. What is the cancer cause for R’s that differs from D’s? Can’t wait to hear this.

    1. He makes $2.1M per year.
What do you make from charity?
